Speech-Language Therapy
Following best practice guidelines, speech, language, and communication skills are built and improved upon at Footholds Therapy Center. These skills help contribute to a greater quality of life for our clients, along with increased confidence and social skills.
The speech-language pathologists at Footholds Therapy Center work with our clients on their communication skills – both verbal and non-verbal – including receptive, expressive, and pragmatic communication.
In addition to verbal and non-verbal language skills, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) techniques are utilized to work with clients who may have severe speech or language problems.
Some of the ways our speech-language pathologists work with clients are by helping with:
- Speech delays and disorders
- Swallowing and feeding disorders
- Cognitive-communicative disorders
- Fluency disorders
- Communication and swallowing disorders related to other issues, including hearing impairments, traumatic brain injury, developmental, neurological impairments, and more.
Canadian speech-pathologists are required to have a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and must be licensed by provincial colleges or comply with each province’s certification standards.
At Footholds Therapy Center, our team of experienced and skilled speech-pathologists works with clients to ensure treatment plans are tailored to each client’s specific needs, and that progress is regularly measured. Our speech-language pathologists will also work with families throughout the process to ensure they’re equipped with strategies to help their family members succeed with their goals.
