Our History
In 2010, Footholds Therapy Center was established upon recognizing the growing need for high quality, empathetic, and individualized special needs services on Vancouver Island.
Twenty years of experience with special needs education, behavioural intervention, and family services lead up to the creation of a program built to accommodate a variety of needs in a safe environment — one that is conducive to providing effective treatment and care for families facing unique challenges.
Our Mission & Vision
Footholds Therapy and Education Program holds a dynamic and ever-evolving perspective of change in that, with every new experience and/or relationship there is an opportunity for growth and change. True, sustainable change is a process that invites, encourages and inspires through opportunity and holistic safety. Change, learning and growth is offered and with the goal and hope of ultimately being accepted by our learners and families.
To fulfill our vision of a place that can meet a variety of unique needs safely and effectively, Footholds Therapy Center has worked hard to build a team who strives to achieve the same goals.
Our clinical team members are on the Registry of Autism Services Providers (RASP); a provincial body that ensures service providers have the education and training to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Our Clinical team holds a variety of Masters Degrees in Psychology, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Art Therapy. Our intervention and teaching team members also hold a wide range of degrees and diplomas in Social Services, Bachelors of Education, Special Education, Psychology, and Child and Youth Care.
Footholds Therapy and Education Program believe that continuing education and professional development is paramount to ensuring we provide effective programming. Towards this effort all staff are continually offered certificate based training workshops, supervision as well as a graduated evaluation process.
Their ability to support, communicate, and connect with families and children has created a safe, productive, and progressive environment at our centers. Staff members also ensure constant communication with parents and are always more than happy to assist with any questions or concerns parents may have.
Initial intake meetings are always free of charge and are a great way to introduce yourself and your child to our center and services!
